Hey y'all!
Happy weekend to you!
A while back I read an inspiring post over at Camp Creek, about using a parent journal to help keep track of my kids' emerging ideas. Part of Lori's take on parent journals is that (among many other great things) you should use it to keep track of your child's questions.
Kids are so naturally curious and ready to learn, but so often their questions come at awkward times (always in the car) or so rapid fire that you just can't keep up.
Writing them down to refer back to later, when you have time to ponder, is brilliant. It has really helped me to help them grow those idea seeds into a garden of projects!
Just for kicks, and to the amusement of my band of men, I sometimes make a little sketch to go along with their questions and ideas. It's been a nice, quiet collaboration for us. They live out their days, just being their curious little selves, and I observe, listen, take notes and doodle.
Later, when I show them a page from my journal they get a big kick out of both the fact that I've honored their ideas enough to write them down, and that I've made a few little drawings to go with them.
I recently began putting them into blog form because I thought it would be fun, in years to come, to compile them into a book of all the wonderful thoughts and curiosities that have colored our time together.
Anyhow, I've been thinking that you and your kiddos might want to have a peek too... and that maybe our little doodles and ideas will inspire some good times for you to share and some fun things for you to think on and investigate together.
You can find a few sketches, and the questions that inspired them, on our new blog, Doodle Bugs.
If your kiddos like to draw and ask a lot of questions too, they can email us their own Doodle Bugs!
On weekends, we'll share some of what our friends are doing and drawing. You can find out more about that over on the new Doodle Bug Blog.
