Hi folks!
The boys have been at Backyard Bible Clubs this week (think Vacation Bible School, on a small scale, with fun teenage teachers, in backyards around town instead of in a church), so I've had a little bit of free time in the mornings.
There's a lot to be said for some morning quiet time.
A lot! It's really kind of astonishing how much you can get done in 2 hours if you have no distractions. You know I adore my distractions and will freely give them what's left of my youth and sanity but DANG it's nice to play solitary artist now and then.
I clear the sink of dishes, wipe down the counters, fold and put away the clothes, then turn up the radio way too loud, grab myself a chilly diet coke and M&Ms that I will not have to share with anyone else, cruise the internets and sketch a bit for the new (soon to be out, pinky swear) Book of Days.
Ahhhhhhh.
Here's what I did this morning while listening to the "all 80s all the time" station (Chaka Kahn anyone? Raspberry Beret?)
She's a work in progress, but I kind of love her. If I were to have a daughter (I'm not dropping any hints here, just speculating) that's pretty much how I imagine she'd be... quirky and smart and tough, totally able to hang with the dudes.
On a completely unrelated note, I am learning to make sushi rolls. I used this recipe for the rice (but with a teaspoon, not a tablespoon, of salt), and filled it with imitation "krab," avocado, cucumber and cream cheese). Super delish, if not quite as pretty as I'd hoped. I did some like this with the rice on the outside, but found it much easier with the Nori on the outside after that.
Any sushi experts out there want to give me some newbie tips? And um, anyone have any ideas about what I should do with the remaining 3/4 full package of "Krab?"
Happy Wednesday all! Stay cool out there!
