Hi all! I hope that all our stateside friends had a wonderful Halloween!
I can tell you that Frankenstein, Darth Vadar and Sir Ryder, The Royal Knight, had a whopping good time.
Of course for the mama, it was a last minute scramble.... Darth couldn't find his cape. Frank needed shoulder pads to give him that burly monster look (a most wonderful use for plastic grocery bags if you ask me!) and the knight.... Well he was SUPPOSED to be a soldier, had his costume all ready, and then the day before Halloween he gave me his sad eyes and said, "but mama I don't want to be a soldier, I NEED to be a knight instead!"
See, he came home from the Renaissance Festival with a new shield and sword, and he was just itching to parade them around the neighborhood. So, Halloween eve found me desperately trying to fashion a knight's helmet from cereal boxes and duct tape. In the end, he was pleased with himself, and that's what counts, right?
There was curb side service, care of Grumpy's Halloween Hayride. Bags and tummies were full of sweets. And then as I tucked them in, sleepy, but smiling and warm, it dawned on me that my throat was feeling rather crummy.
I spent all day yesterday in bed. Which, save for the aching head and throat, isn't such a bad way to spend a day.
Of course it means that I didn't prepare for our school week, nor did I unpack from the Renaissance Festival, nor did I write that Crockpot post that I've been promising you. Nothing like starting the week out already behind, huh?
Bear with me friends, I'll be back tomorrow full of slow cookery stories. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all your recipes and make ahead meal ideas on our last post. You guys are fantastic!
Until tomorrow then, I thought I'd share a few glimpses of our trip back in time to the Renaissance.
